The design for this thing comes from tc_tea who published the print files on Thingiverse in May 2013 (Thing 84075). I have printed a number of these in firetruck red and in white as shown but they can be custom printed in any colour of course. (I have many of the colours available from Faberdashery)

The overall length is approximately 150mm, the rosebud itself being approximately 36mm tall. (They can be printed larger - the rosebud in the photograph with the blue background is around 60mm tall and has a total length including the stem of approximately 200mm. All of these things have been printed using PLA filament, the stems are in 'Greenery Green'.

This air plant is mounted onto the LOVE sculpture shown in the photograph which is based on that created by the famous American artist Robert Indiana. The plant is easy to care for and can be watered simply by spray misting or dunking it along with the sculpture into water.

The sculpture which stands approximately 95mm tall was printed from a design by phineasjw. (Described here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:22952 ). Once printed, the sculpture was treated to provide a shiny surface texture on the ABS plastic from which it was made.

This air plant is mounted against a 3D printed sculpture illusion attached to a base decorated with black and silver plastic 'rocks' which are fixed in place. This makes the plant easy to care for as it can be watered simply by spray misting or dunking it along with the sculpture into water.

The sculpture which stands approximately 145mm tall was printed from a design called Vica by chylld. It was published on 21st January 2011 and described here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:22952. Once printed, the sculpture was treated to provide a shiny surface texture on the ABS plastic from which it was made.

This air plant is mounted against one of two hollow cat sculptures attached to a base decorated with red and black plastic 'rocks' which are fixed in place. This makes the plant easy to care for as it can be watered simply by spray misting or dunking it along with the sculptures and base into water.

The cat models were designed by mere and published on Thingiverse as 'Lucy the cat' on 4th June 2012. They are described here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:24255.

The base is approximately 80mm in diameter. The translucent green cat is around 55mm tall and its companion slightly taller at approximately 60mm.

Two 3D printed sculptures.

The air plant is mounted onto the white LOVE sculpture shown in the photograph which is based on that created by the famous American artist Robert Indiana. The plant is easy to care for and can be watered simply by spray misting or dunking it along with the sculpture into water.

The second LOVE sculpture in red does not have an air plant attached to it and is shown next to the white one here simply for effect. Both sculptures, which stand approximately 75mm tall, were printed from a design by phineasjw. (Described here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:22952 ). They are made from polylactic acid, PLA, which is derived from organic materials such as corn starch.

This air plant is mounted onto a model, designed by Tom Cushwa, of an owl facing towards the right. The plant is easy to care for and can be watered simply by spray misting or dunking it along with the model into water.

The sculpture which stands approximately 110mm tall was printed using Laywoo-D3 plastic fromTom's files which can be found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:18218.

Laywoo-D3 is an interesting material. It comes from Germany and is made by adding wood fibres to a thermoplastic called PLA (polylactic acid) which derives from corn starch. By varying the temperature of the Laywoo3D filament at various stages during the production of the model, a woodgrain effect is achieved which definitely makes this object unique - there is no record kept of how the temperature was varied!

One of a series of air plant items based on the "Binary Roots"  container design by Vitrox. (Described here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:26227 )

The air plant is not mounted using glue or any other fixative so that it can be watered easily -remove it from the container, dunk it in water and replace. The container is approximately 120mm wide and 45mm tall. Once printed, the container was treated to provide a shiny surface texture on the ABS plastic from which it was made.

Same design file - different colours

The bubbly surface on the above container was achieved by applying heat from an air blower to the plastic once it had been treated in an acetone vapour bath. A closer view can be seen below.

Finally .... what I call "Sweetie Roots"
