This air plant is mounted onto a model, designed by Tom Cushwa, of an owl facing towards the right. The plant is easy to care for and can be watered simply by spray misting or dunking it along with the model into water.

The sculpture which stands approximately 110mm tall was printed using Laywoo-D3 plastic fromTom's files which can be found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:18218.

Laywoo-D3 is an interesting material. It comes from Germany and is made by adding wood fibres to a thermoplastic called PLA (polylactic acid) which derives from corn starch. By varying the temperature of the Laywoo3D filament at various stages during the production of the model, a woodgrain effect is achieved which definitely makes this object unique - there is no record kept of how the temperature was varied!
